Bahamas Independence Day is celebrated on 10 July. If 10 July falls on either a Saturday or a Sunday, the following Monday will be a public holiday.

This public holiday marks independence from the United Kingdom in 1973 and is the National Holiday of the Bahamas.

Emancipation Day holiday, on the first Monday in August, celebrates the emancipation of slaves in the British colonies in 1834. It is celebrated with a Junkanoo Rush-out, a day of beaching, sailing, and regattas in most islands.
